I was actually fairly surprised by this. I wouldn't necessarily say he would win, but I was certain he'd at least show. Anyone have an explanation, or is he just not as good as his races in Peru would show him to be?

  1. I wish I could see his Peru races somewhere... He sounds quite talented, but hasn't shown it here in the US.  He finished closer to the winner than he did in the Florida Derby though, but he was behind more horses.  I think they're having trouble getting the horse involved in the race earlier.  He couldn't make up all the ground in the Florida Derby since he was last for half the race.  They worked him out of the gate last week to prepare for the Lexington, and he did break well in the Lexington, but then was a little wide at the first turn so he got shuffled back a little and ended up at the back of the pack just like he was in the Florida Derby.  He's supposed to have the endurance to go 12 furlongs, but in his US starts it looks like he's struggling with just 9 furlongs.  I don't know what to say about him.  He's just like all the other 3 year old colts this year... struggling along in every race.

  2. races in Peru are alot cheaper than they are here. I do not believe you will see him in Louisville the first saturday in may.

  3. A lot of the horses have had trouble in one race or another this year. I thought Atone would have atleast placed or showed too.  I had watched all of his races just about and in 9, he had never been less than place in 7 of them ? ?

  4. I agree with the answerer  before me. His races in America have not been the greatest. I was surprised by his performance. I thought he would get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. His races in Peru were very good. He has ran over synthetic surfaces for the first time. He has run in distances of 1 1/4 miles when he was a two year old. I was disappointed with his 6th place. I was thinking he might be the next Canonero II. But now he doesn't have enough earnings to make the Derby.
