Tominator and St Nicholas Abbey suffer massive setbacks – Horseracing news
Tominator and St Nicholas Abbey have suffered injuries, which will rule them out of action of all the scheduled events.
Although the former of the two has a chance to recover and comeback to the sport after one year, the latter will not be seen in action anymore, as his injury was so severe that it ended his career.
Coolmore Stud tweeted, “St Nicholas Abbey suffered a serious career ending injury at Ballydoyle this morning, vets are currently attending to him. We hope to save him for a career at stud. St Nicholas Abbey is currently in a comfortable condition at Fethard
Equine Hospital, where he is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning.”
The six-year-old horse was one of the favourites to succeed in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot this weekend. He has got a very good record and had been delivering some terrific results for his camp over the years. However, he took
a tumble during his final practice yesterday, which resulted in life threatening injuries to him. He seems to be in a stable condition now, but it will not be possible for him to be back on the race track ever again in the future.
The Aidan O’Brien’s trainee took part in a total of 21 races, after starting his career back in 2009. He was quite an aggressive stallion and no one could doubt his quality right from the start of his impressive campaign in horseracing. There were only three
occasions, when he failed to finish in the top-three for his camp and clinched nine victories overall.
On the other hand, Tominator also suffered a huge setback and his trainer Jonjo O'Neill said, “The horse has a suspensory problem which has been detected by our vets and the chances are he will be out for a year or more. He is in the betting for the Ebor
at York next month so I thought it was in everybody's interests that we made it public.”
The six-year-old gelding is a veteran of 39 races and has been victorious on eight occasions in his career. Above that, he finished second in six races whereas secured the third spot in five of them.
