Tommaso D’Orsogna earns Men’s 100m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on opening day of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The Australian swimmer continued his unravelling efforts in the four-lap freestyle discipline. D’Orsogna remained prominent over his competitors from the start as he went full rampant in the race to capture gold medal.
With his unrelenting efforts in the 100m discipline, D’Orsogna managed to edge out his closest competitor over the finishing blockade for the title by producing a wonderful time of 47.03 seconds.
The champion was followed by Cameron McEvoy of Australia, who stayed only 0.17 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end as silver medallist by posting a time of 47.20 seconds.
McEvoy was chased by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who stayed 0.33 seconds slower and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for bronze medal by touching the wall with a timing of 47.53 seconds.
Subsequently, McEvoy was chased by Australian swimmer, Kyle Richardson, who remained half a body length slower from reaching the podium and surfaced on the finishing wall for fourth position by clocking an effort of 48.02 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was secured by Robert Jovanovic of Australia, who stayed 1.01 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 49.03 seconds.
Jovanovic was trailed by Junwu Liu of China, who was just 0.01 seconds slower and made his way towards the finishing blockade for sixth position by producing a time of 49.04 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Travis Mahoney of Australia, who was 0.37 seconds slower and clocked a time of 49.41 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Justin James of Australia, who suffered a deficit of only 0.02 seconds from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 49.43 seconds.
Furthermore, D’Orsogna received massive admiration from the audience for his gruelling efforts and stressed that he would try to please his fans by achieving the same in forthcoming swimming competitions.
