Tommy Anderson secures Men’s 100m backstroke gold – Swimming news
Tommy Anderson of CAST-SI secured gold medal of Men’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2013 Speedo Grand Challenge at Woollett Aquatic Centre on Sunday, May 26.
The 17-year-old Anderson stifled hopes of his opponents in the double lap backstroke discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With his impeccable pace, Anderson managed to outperform his closest swimmer over the finishing end and secured the title with the timing of 58.69 seconds.
The champion was chased by Jared R Smith of BCH Heatwave-CA, who was only 0.05 seconds slower from overpowering the first position holder and ended second in the race with the timing of 58.74 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Corey H Okubo of Azot-CA, who was nearly 0.40 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 59.14 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Curtis T Klein of TDPS-OR, who was 0.11 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 59.25 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Josh D Smith of UN-03-CA, who was 0.27 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 59.52 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was secured by Brian Woodbury of TSC-PN, who was only 0.12 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and concluded his race in a time of 59.64 seconds.
Thomas J Smith of AZOT-CA, who was 0.18 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 59.82 seconds, obtained seventh fastest spot of the event.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Christian Garkani of AZOT-CA, who was only a stroke away from improving his position and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 59.91 seconds.
Michael A Cohn of UN-28-SI, who was 0.20 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 00.11 seconds, obtained ninth position of the event.
The 20-year-old Cohn was chased by Joey W Gebhart of Bch Heatwave-CA, who remained 0.40 seconds slower from his former finisher and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 00.51 seconds.
In addition, Anderson received a huge round of applause from the audience for his commendable pace in the 100m backstroke. Furthermore, the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the event.
