Dream fight. Burns was a small heavyweight at 5'7" and about 180 lbs and Ketchel a great middleweight with enormous power. Both lost to Jack Johnson.

  1. i'd say stanley ketchel

  2. interesting, i think tommy had more power that some give hm credit for, and ketchel was an animal when faced with someone who wasn't jack johnson.

i think ketchel, at 170, had a terrific chance of beating burns.

there isn't enough footage of either, i will still pick ketchel by decision.

  3. Good comment from Maurice. I agree. Tommy was no doubt tougher than maybe given credit for by looking at his record. I still favor Ketch in the match though. I think he may have been a bit tougher, and the speed and extreme pressure Ketch would put on Burns may prove a bit too much for Tommy. Also another reason I pick Stanely is their bouts. They crossed paths, so to speak, by having some of the same opponents.

Burns vs. O'Brien - 1st. bout Burns lost at 6. Their next 2 bouts it took burns 20 rds. to win a desc. and a win. - Ketchel vs. O'Brien - 1st. bout 10 rds. with O'Brien being saved by the bell. 2nd bout went 3rds. Ketch destroyed O'Brien, knocking him completly out cold.

Burns vs. Hugo Kelly - 1st bout took Burns 10 rds. for the desc. - 2nd bout took Burns 20 rds. for a desc. - Ketchel vs. Hugo Kelly. Took Ketch only 3 rds. to demolish Hugo.Ko.

I'm gonna pick Stanley on this one toughguy.
