Tommy Haas believes that Andy Murray fakes injury – Tennis News
Former world number two, Tommy Haas of Germany, thinks that Britain’s current best tennis player, Andy Murray, pretends to be injured when actually he is not.
Giving an interview to German TV, Haas said, "It's difficult when you play against someone who is walking on the court like he is not well or is injured. I find no one does this better than Andy Murray, from time to time. Sometimes
he looks like he can barely move, then comes the trainer and then he moves like a cat.”
The German went on to say that he believes almost all of the players on the ATP World Tour knows this, as they also talk about this in the locker room. However, Haas also thinks that Murray does not do this to disturb his opponents
but to shrug off his own pressure.
He added, "Maybe he would like to take some pressure off himself. He tells himself, 'Maybe I have a niggle or a problem; I am not feeling too well, but I'm going to try it anyway.' But he is such a talented player that he really
doesn't need [to do] this."
Murray pulled out from this year’s Mutua Madrid Open and said that he was having back pain since last December. Murray’s participation was doubtful at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and French Open but he took part in both of
them.
Despite his continuous injury claims, the Brit has now decided to feature at the AEGON Championships in London’s Queen’s Club.
After giving his best performance during the 2011 European clay court season, Murray failed to impress this year. He was ousted by the then world number seven, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, in three sets 7-6(4), 2-6, 3-6 in
the quarter-finals at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. The 25-year-old lost to Canada’s Milos Raonic, ranked 25th at that time, in straight sets 4-6, 6-7(3) in the last-eight stage of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
Murray’s bad run of form continued during the clay court season, as he was surprised by the then world number 22, Richard Gasquet of France, in three sets 7-6(1), 3-6, 2-6 in the round of 16 at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
The Brit failed to reach the last four at a Grand Slam for the first time in almost two years, as he was beaten by Spain’s David Ferrer in four sets 4-6, 7-6(3), 3-6, 2-6 in the quarter-finals of the French Open.
