Tommy Haas completed his 500 match win in the round two at the Erste Bank Open 2012 – Tennis News
Ranked 20th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Ranking, Tommy Haas, finished the streak of his 500th win on Thursday in the  second round of the Erste Bank Open 2012 held at the hard courts of Vienna,
Austria. He beautifully stole the show and consolidated his straight sets triumph, 6-4, 6-2  against the American professional, Jesse Levine.
In a press conference, he told the media, “I knew for a few days that I would reach the milestone if I won this match. This was a big goal of mine. In April, I was at around 472 wins and I knew it wouldn't be easy to win another
27 or 28 matches. It makes me really proud and for sure this is one of my biggest achievements after everything that happened. The fact that it happened here in Vienna makes it very special. Getting such a gift on top of it makes it an amazing day for me.
For now I’m focusing on next year.”
The 34-year-old German was gifted a special Fiat 500 by the Director of the tournament, Herwig Strake, as he became the 38th contender in the Open Era to achieve this title. He joined the league of the top tennis stars
like Roger Federer (871), Rafael Nadal (583), and Lleyton Hewitt (566).
He is hopeful to bag home the second trophy of the season after defeating the Swiss Maestro, Federer. He aims to secure the win against world number one, taking advantage of his home ground at the Gerry Weber Open. He skilfully
finished his ATP World Tour 500 events at Washington and Hamburg, making a 31-15 season record.
The German veteran was unable to rally beyond the initial rounds of the Grand Slam Championships this year and his world rankings considerably declined. He battled against the Serbian number one, Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-finals
of the ATP Masters Series event, Shanghai Rolex Masters, China. Haas displayed his classic run of form and faced his higher ranked contenders confidently.
The former world number nine is determined to secure his former glory by displaying classic performances next year. He has a strong resolve to win his 13th title and intends to continue his tennis career.
