Tommy Hunter becomes epicentre of praise as Baltimore Orioles defeat Los Angeles Angels 8-3
The Baltimore Orioles were looking to go up in their new series as they beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 on Friday, September 16 at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
The credit for the win deservingly went to Tommy Hunter, the former star of the Texas Rangers.
Hunter went into the game against a consistent starter and winner, Dan Haren. The only thing that the Angels were worried about was that the former Rangers’ starter would pierce through the offensive lines with determination to give his previous club a winning
chance at a playoff qualification.
The Angels were three wins behind the Rangers in the American League West before the game kicked off. They wanted to slash their gap and edge closer to the qualification feat. However that was not going to happen as Hunter cleared the strike zone with seven
scoreless innings.
The starter moved to 4-4 after a brilliant knock at the Angels and it was special. His former team-mates contacted him after the game to tell him that they were paying attention.
The Angels were disappointed to lose the bout and Torii Hunter took the opportunity to pass a comment on Tommy.
"I'm pretty sure [Hunter] has a lot of friends over [with the Rangers] and he's like, 'This is for my old buddies,'" Los Angeles Angels’ out-fielder Torii Hunter said.
Hunter talked to the press after the game and he explained his mentality on the mound when he was going up against the Angels.
"Keeping the ball down, that was something we went over from day one after my last start. We thought that was a big necessity to fix," Hunter said.
Nevertheless, the player has made a good note on his victory.
"We like to finish strong no matter who it is out there," Hunter said.
Hunter is with the Orioles and he is looking to end this season in the interest of his club. It will be interesting to see how the Orioles manage to carry their winning momentum into their next match-up.
