Tommy Hunter gets to pitch in bullpen session
Scheduled to be in the rotation for Opening Day, Tommy Hunter of Texas Rangers, never got the chance to go right in for the first appearance against Seattle Mariners.
Right before the first day of the new Major League Baseball season came, the hurler exited the squad due to a right groin injury on March 24, 2011.
The ace was replaced with Alexi Ogando and he was sent to the disabled list to start the season. Fortunately, now that situation looks bound to change. The ball thrower was recently in Arlington, working on his recovery. He got the opportunity to head to
the mound for the first time. He took the chance and pitched 38 times on April 19, 2011.
The good news further translated forward, as the player said he felt nothing wrong and there was no discomfort in his groin area.
"It was a big step", Hunter said. "Being pain-free is only good when you're off the mound. Now we can get up a program and go from there".
The player is still a month away from pitching professionally. He is not the only one on the sidelines as Brandon Webb is also looking for recovery from his lost form. The two may not be needed in the rotation at the moment as Rangers have five complete
slots. Hunter understands the situation well and he may not be needed when he returns to full fitness.
"They're doing a great job", Hunter said. "Everybody is throwing well. It's a good problem to have. You've got to work your way back and fight your way up. It is what it is. You've got to throw well to be in the big leagues and I haven't been able to throw
well. Getting healthy is the first priority and go where they tell you to go".
Colby Lewis, who pitched against Los Angeles Angels, is looking weak so far and if there’s anyone, who will make room, it will most probably be him. Nevertheless, a bullpen role is always in the cards for Hunter and Webb.
