Tommy Robredo passes by Stephane Bohli into 2nd round – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011
Tommy Robredo, Spanish world No.46, chalked up a close win over the Swiss world No.247, Stephane Bohli, in the first round match of Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011. Battling out on blue hard circuit at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena,
on Monday, 10th October, it took the Spaniard more than 2 hours to outplay the Swiss winning the fixture 7-6(3), 7-6(4) and onto the next stage.
Warming up following with the start of the match, Bohli won the toss and served first to for the match opener. Serving out the first game, Swiss world No.247 took the lead, however, was equalled up instantly by the world No.46.
Rallying out the next games, the two levelled up at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and then at 5-5. Unable to break each other, the lower ranked Swiss had posed greater defence against the higher ranked Spaniard. The set finally stuck at a tiebreaker
with Bohli to serve first.
With the disparity an advantage for the Spaniard, Robredo stormed past the lower ranked Swiss bagging the tiebreaker, 7-3, and moved to a 1-0 lead in the set score.
Serving the second set starter, Robredo fell short as the Swiss world No.247 broke early. With a staggering break-serve-break win at the start, the lower ranked contender blazed away with three straight games to lead the set 3-0.
However, perhaps over confident of his lead, Bohli came crashing down as the Spaniard increased his onslaught. Breaking back in game 4 and serving out game 4 Robredo pushed up the scores to 2-3 and switched the serve. Bohli did
extend his lead to 4-2 yet could not hold on to it as the world No.46 struck again.
Serving out game 7, the 29-year-old Spaniard broke for the second time to level up the scores at 4-4. Winning a game each next, the two levelled up again at 5-5 and ended up in a tiebreaker.
Having won the first set in a tiebreaker as well, Robredo served first this time winning the first two points. Gaining back, the Swiss pushed over his first win, however, could not break a point to level up. Mustering away, the
Spaniard won the tiebreaker 7-4 with much ease, sealing his straight sets win.
Celebrating his first round win, Robredo falls in the hands of compatriot, Nicolas Almagro, world No.11, who is seeded seventh for the ATP World Tour Masters event. Undoubtedly, the match would be worth the watch, as the two bulls
collide for the 3rd round seat of the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011.
