The Indonesian campaigner started his campaign against an unknown Indian player Abhinav Manota and registered his presence with an impressive straight-set victory. He took just 22 minutes to wrap this showdown in a favourable manner.
Tommy Sugiarto set the foundation of his dominance by winning opening game with 21-11 margin and then served the notice of his supremacy with a staggering knock of 21-7. This timely win led him to second round where a lower ranked Malaysian Zulhelmi Zulkiffli
was waiting for him.
This short-lived battle ended in just two games as Tommy did not give his rival even a single chance to proceed and cast him out with 2-0 margin. He mounted pressure by clinching first match point with 21-10 score and then magnified the impact by sealing
his victory with a convincing figure of 21-6.
With such an impressive performance, the Indonesian shuttler ensured his presence in the pre quarter-final round. There was double trouble this time as he had to compete Sai Praneeth B on his home ground.
However, Tommy Sugiarto did not lose heart and stood tall in the local badminton arena of Lucknow, India.
This hard fought tussle lasted for three exhausting sets as both contenders put all in their possession to qualify for the round of right. They stood toe-to-toe until the second set and did not allow each other to gain a permanent lead.
The decider proved real test of their finishing skills as they were looking to pocket this final match point. Finally, Tommy Sugiarto displayed superior badminton skills on court and raised hands as victor after putting a favourable score on the board.
His hard work paid off and he remained invincible in preliminary stages. This series of victories paved his path to the quarter-final round of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG.
However, the Indonesian shuttler must develop a winning habit if he wants to make a long lasting impact in the international badminton arena.
