Tommy Sugiarto surges into Men’s Singles semi-final at German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Indonesia’s emerging shuttler Tommy Sugiarto stretched his winning streak as he surged into Men’s Singles semi-final of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012, which is in progress at Mulheim, Germany.
In the quarter-final clash, Sugiarto thrashed Finland’s Ville Lang with a comprehensive margin on Friday, March 2.
Sugiarto, who has been placed at number 19 in Men’s Singles world rankings, delivered wonderful performance as he stamped his supremacy over his lower ranked Finnish opponent in an emphatic fashion.
The Indonesian, who was ninth seed in the tournament, lived up to expectations and remained successful in winning the quarter-final fight in straight games by taking just 41 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Lang could not cope up with the speed and perfection of his higher ranked Indonesian opponent and lost the match without taking any game.
In the first game, both men put up a spirited display of top class badminton and remained close until 3-3.
At this stage, Sugiarto geared up his speed and played attacking badminton which helped him to take a reasonable lead of 8-5.
However, Lang showed wonderful progress in his strategy as he played positive game and levelled the score. The Indonesian could manage just a small lead until the break.
After the interval, Lang again levelled the score by playing fast and positive badminton. However, he could not set up lead as his rival was quicker in taking the bird.
Sugiarto started to build lead in the concluding half of first set and managed to bag it with a remarkable 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, both shuttlers showed their impressive play by keeping their speed at the maximum level. They reached at 8-8 when Sugiarto managed a three-point advantage of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, Sugiarto remained in complete control as he did not lose his focus in the entire concluding part and took the set with a terrific margin of 21-14.
The Indonesian won this Men’s Singles quarter-final contest in 41 minutes with a comprehensive score of 21-14 and 21-14.
In the semi-final showdown, Sugiarto will take on the top seed Lin Dan of China, who defeated Denmark’s Hans Kristian Vittinghus in the other quarter-final clash.
