Tommy Sugiarto tames Maxime Michel to advance in the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge
Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto continued his winning run as he tamed France’s Maxime Michel in the Men’s Singles third round of the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge, in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Wednesday, July 20.
World Number 26, Sugiarto, who is the top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, played tremendous badminton in a relaxed but composed manner and won the fight easily against the French shuttler in straight-sets, by working for 36 minutes in the
court.
Sugiarto proved too strong for Michel, who struggled in the whole match to find his momentum. However, the planned and perfect game of the local shuttler ended the road for the French player. Michel tried to put up some sort of resistance in the first game,
but failed completely in the second set, when he gave up fighting against his impressive challenger.
The top seed opened his campaign against the French shuttler in a relaxed manner, but he remained focused in the game and missed no chance of scoring points. He was ahead of Michel until the break, where the score was at 11-7.
After the break, the French shuttler tried to tackle the attacking play of his rival, but he failed to return the powerful smashes of Sugiarto, who was playing with precision. The Indonesia grabbed the first game without any considerable fight by the score
of 21-15, in 21 minutes.
The second game was quite entertaining for the Indonesian crowd, as the local player thrashed the French shuttler in this set by playing to his full potential. Michel became slow as his opponent was moving him around the court by keeping the pace of the
game high.
The spirited Indonesian finished the second game with an impressive margin of 21-7, by taking only 15 minutes. The ending score of this 36-minute straight-game fight was 21-15 and 21-7.
In the Men’s Singles fourth round, Sugiarto will be up against India’s talented shuttler, Aditya Prakash, who proved his skill against Malaysia’s Chong Kein Hiung after beating him in a three-set battle.
