I'm 16 and I'm nervous for getting the wisdom teeth out. I was wondering whether or not it hurts afterwards, and how bad it hurts. Also, how many days after does it hurt? Let's say I get it done Tuesday, does it hurt Tuesday, and Wednesday or how many days after? Thanks

  1. I had my done when i was 17 (5 years ago) and it is honestly no where near as bad as i thought. The worse pain i experienced was when they put they put an I.V. in my arm to knock me out. It was actually a worse experience not being able to eat for over 12 hours than it was to deal with aftermath of getting my wisdom teeth out. You feel nothing when they are taking the teeth out and you won't remember it.

Afterward, the pain is almost non-existent.  They will give you powerful pain killers (which will also make you sleep like a baby, ease anxiety, and elevate your mood) that will cause you to go about life like normal.

Trust me, it hurts way more to stub your toe or bang your elbow than it does to get your wisdom teeth out, especially at your age. They come out with great ease when you are a teenager.

I'm not trying to b.s. you or lie to calm you down. There is almost no pain. It ended up being 1/1000000 as bad as i thought. Once you start taking your pain pills (which is before the stuff they give you during surgery even wares off) not only will you continue to not experience really any pain but you will actually feel really, really good.

The only reason i keep banging away at my point is because i know the kind of anxiety you are going through, my stress was terrible, and i wished i had known just how easy the experience was actually going to be.

Remember, modern pain killers are really effective, so you won't be in agony. h**l, you probably won't even think much about it after they wake you up when they are done removing them. This isn't 1750 after all. Modern medicine has perfected the art of stopping pain.

  2. I'll tell you one thing for sure. It's not near as bad as what you're imagining. The pain is a slow, dull throb but you should be prescribed medication for any pain along with an antibiotic a lot of people never even need to take the pain medication. It's not that bad.

  3. It looks like I had a harder time than most people here with wisdom teeth...

The main thing to do is follow the instructions, otherwise you'll be a whole lot of hurt. I had the shots in my mouth for the pain, and I disregarded the instructions on not rinsing my mouth and taking the painkillers, and it was one of the most horrific moments of my life, and the pain didn't go away for weeks.

The second time around I got smarter, followed the instructions, and it was about as pain-free as getting a shot. The pain almost completely went away on the second day.

  4. You shouldn't be worried or nervous at all. Just relax and you will be fine. I am terrified of dental work so getting my wisdom teeth out was really scarry for me at first too. I had 4 taken out two weeks ago, and I can honestly say that it was one of the easiest procedures ever. I was put to sleep with general anesthesia for the surgery, so I didn't feel anything during it. I fell asleep in less than half a minute, and woke up in what feels like a minute. After that, during the whole recovery process, I did not feel any pain. I stuck to a tight schedule with my painkillers and felt great. Normally, the worst pain you should feel occurs during the 3rd to 5th days. But for me, I never had any pain or swelling. So, you'll be fine. Just remember to take your pain meds on a tight schedule, so you won't even get a chance to feel pain.

Good luck and hope you have a good recovery

  5. It's very different for each person. I only had to use strong pills for the 1st day, and other than that I was fine.  However, my face was absolutely huge!!  It was massive for a complete week, I refused to leave the house.  So though I didn't have much pain... I just had to live with a massive face for a week.  Maybe because I had 6 wisdom teeth removed...
