  1. I do a nine hour car ride every summer, so I know how you feel.  If you have a laptop or portable DVD player, bring it and some DVD's to watch.  They really pass the time!  Stay up late so that you are tired, as sleeping makes the time go faster.  Bring food too, travel makes you hungary.  If you have an ipod (particurally one with video capabilities) you can buy or rent movies, and buy new music.  There are workbooks out there with good games, crossword puzzles, riddles and such which can be fun.  You could also read books or magazines.  Books on tape or CD, especially really interesting ones, can be great!  I like needle work and doing things with my hands.  This may not be for you, but it's worth mentioning: Finger knitting, regular knitting, drawing, writing, daisy chaining, making keychains and other things with gimp/boondoggle, etc.  Overall, the best thing to do is to keep yourself occupied.  If you have a portable game system (gameboy, PSP, etc.) you can bring that and buy a new game.  If there are other passengers besides the driver, you can even bring a deck and play cards.  I hope this helps, and enjoy your trip.

  19. It really depends on your interests. You can read, draw, listen to music on your mp3, play video games on your PSP or DS, enjoy the scenery, eat, sleep, etc. I normally sleep on long trips so i can pass time quick and have energy when we arrive.
