Ok, so about a week ago, I went to this place for an interview and it went well. They called me back about 3 days ago for a second interview and at the end informed me that I had the job. This will be my first job (i'm 16) and it's not really anything hard. I will work at a coffee/ice cream shop inside a marketplace. So, they told me to come in tomorrow to start training, but this morning I started to feel a bit sick. Nothing serious, just a little cold. I have a bit of a sore throat and a stuff nose. I'm afraid of going to work tomorrow, sniffing and sneezing. I'm afraid i'll look bad and make a bad impression. I really want this job bad. What should I do? I think rescheduling it is out of the question.

  1. go to work n show ur sick to ur employer! that will settle all the problem!

  2. Since it is your first day, definitely show up. When you arrive, tell them you are feeling a little under the weather, and they can work around it. As you are training, you most likely will not be handling the food yourself. Calling off on your first day is a really bad idea, you might not get a second day!

Just go in and be honest about the situation and show enthusiasm for the job.

  3. Good Question!!!

If i was in your shoes i would actually go int here this afternoon and speak to your new boss and just explain to him/her that you have picked up a cold/sore throat and while you don;t want to call in sick on your first day, you also don' want to be coughing all over the food etc.

Ask your boss what they would prefer... Would thay rather you come to work and be careful to not sneeze, or they may rather you not come to this shift and make it to the next one.

The other thing about going in today will mean that if they don't want you coming in until you are well, it will give them time to find someone to cover your shift.

I wouldn;t be too worried about losing your job for being sick.  If you lose your job after you have asked them what they would prefer you to do, then would you really want to be owrking their anyway?

Congrats on the job, being upfront and honest is always the best way.

Keep in mind too that your probably a little nervous about starting your new job, which is probably not helping your health.

    I;m sure you;ll be fine!

    Hope this helps

  4. it is really bad to miss your first day of work, only you can decide how you feel and if you feel up to going.  obviously if you are running a fever it is best for you to stay home..

    hope you feel better soon...

  5. you should go to work, they will send you home if they think you bad,

pllus if you go they won't be mad next time your really really sick because they know your going to go back in .

it might make you feel betta doing something

    x*x

  6. I hate when that happens, when you feel sick and

it's your first day at work. I would just show up

anyways and tell them that you are sick. Because

then it will show that you cared enough to show up

rather than just calling over the phone. And if they

see it they will believe it so just go anyways and

tell them you have a cold but you didn't want to

call in sick. And you didn't know if you were fit

to work since you came up with a cold. I'm sure

they'll understand. Good luck, and feel better!

  7. go to work, tell them your sick, and ask them if the would prefer you worked sick or went home to avoid spreading your cold.

Oh and by the way, your not going to make a bad impression just because your sick, pretty much every body gets sick sometimes.

  8. I think that by showing up to work, even sick, will prove that you are an employee that will be very valuable to their staff.  Give them the chance to send you home; but at the least you will be earning brownie points for your future.  Many employers have issues with employees who always call out, or say they are sick but really not.  You will look like  a shining star and they will probably send you home anyway if this is a food service business.  I know that it sucks being sick....but in the long run, it will pay off. Hope you get better!  Good luck!

  9. If tomorrow you are can't-get-out-of-bed sick, or are throwing up or something, then you'd have to call off.  Other than that, I'd go in anyway, but tell them as soon as you arrive what your problem is, and ask them what they want you to do, stay or go home.  They will very likely send you home since you'd be working around food, but at least they'll know that you were being honest, and putting forth solid effort.

Calling off on your first day won't leave a good impression at all.

Have you taken some kind of cough and cold medicine to try to get past this?

Good luck - I hope you feel better in the morning.
