I think not. For the men I cannot see past Nadal. He has been playing both well and grinding out some results recently and his clay and Roland Garros records speak for themselves. As for the Womens, With Justine Henin's said retirement anything could happen. Nobody seems to be talking about Venus Williams- I think she has just as good a chance as anybody else. However, I think Kuznetsova or Ivanovic. Having said that, Jelena Jankovic-Now my favourite player, Is also a contender for she has been playing well.

Okay with that said who do you think will win? Also who could cause a few upsets? I say watch out for Del Potro, Vaidisova and the returns of Kuertan and Coria- It should be interesting.

  1. I think there will be some surprises on the Women's side but none on the Men's.  I think that Nadal will win his 4th French Open in a row.

  2. it seems like a dead give away for nadal to win it again..

for the women, i would think either jankovic, ivanovic, or the black horse Vaidsova.... she was a semifinalist before

  3. watch for eyeerseric, talented frenchman. huge future, also check out for donaldyoung

  4. yes...i think there may be some surprises this year..as they have always been traditionally so on the first day  in almost every slam...but i don't think there wud be any bIG surprises..second day is the key...

as far as title conetenders are concenrned, i also can't think beyond Rafa..on the women's side..Jankovic, Serena and Sharapova are my best bet...i don't even count Ivanovic and Kuznetsova as contenders on title....coz even if they have a great record on the surface..they are completely outa form this season...no big results this year..

also, u really mentioned the names well...Del Potro is good player..but i think he may miss french open...coz of his tear in his back muscle which occured during maybe in rome or monte-carlo...in his match against Andy Murray...

Don't call  guga's play as a comeback..its a farewell dude...he has already announced that he will be officially retiring from Tennis after this year's RG

Coria is a gud one to watch out....

on the women's side,....don't expect much from Vaidisova..coz she has completely lost all of her game since mononeuclosis..

i am looking forward to seeing Nadia Petrova, and the dark horses Alize Cornet and Dinara Safina..also look for Victoria Azarenka

on the men's side..i am really looking forward to seeing Marat Safin play..i really think he can cause some BIG upsets this year...remember..he had qualified into hamburg and then reached 3rd round..losing to Moya in 3 sets...

  5. No, Nadal will win the men's, women's who cares.  Bring on the grass and hard courts.

  6. Men: Champ: Nadal Runner Up: Federer of Djokovic

Women: Champ:Jankovic Runner up??? (too many)

Men. Nadal, definitely. HIs game was made for clay. Heavy topspin fast runner and has good foot work on clay: i can't see nadal holding the runner up trophy to federer.

Women: Jankovic: Her game is consistent and is suited for Clay. She has good footwrk for the clay courts and made it to the semis last yr. not ivanovic b.c she too shakey.

but the womens side is still up for grabs

  7. i don't think there will be anything shocking on the first day;first round play. i know alot of people, myself included, have talked amuck about ana getting beaten but in looking at her draw and her potential early-round opponents, she seems to have a decent couple of rounds to get through to at least the R16. she would most likely have lucie safarova in R2,who has been a dangerous foe to top players and did really well in last year's championships, but she hasn't had the greatest year. i would be incredibly surprised if ivanovic were to be beaten quite that early.

i dunno about venus myself. she played okay for her return but she ended up running into jelena and in the end,JJ just ground her into the court, really. she may get through a couple rounds but i feel there will most likely be a formidable clay courter like flavia pannetta whom she would have in the 3rd round and also mauresmo in the R16.

vaidisova....honestly,for me she has been so disappointing this year with loads of poor losses, she is so far my radar at this juncture.
