Tomway fails to land a victory for owner Wayne Rooney in the 32RedPoker.com Maiden Auction Stakes
Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney’s Tomway shows the start footballer that horseracing is a sport that brings more lows than highs for an owner, as the juvenile colt failed to deliver in his second career start.
Tom Dascombe, who has taken the runner under his wing, was certain that he wiould be able to break out of his shell and deliver in this race as he stated before the race:
“He’s fine and you’d have to think that six furlongs at Chepstow will suit him better than five furlongs at Chester.
“It looks an easier race than what he ran in first time as well and hopefully he can show improvement.
This event at Chepstow on 23rd May, 2012, did not turn out the way it was expected as the young runner failed to deliver a respectable performance.
He showed some determination in the beginning, but as soon as the race got competitive, he felt the pressure, slowed down and gave up.
The two-year-old colt had a chance to redeem himself and recover from his initial failure, but all his efforts went in vain.
Under the guidance of jockey, Richard Kingscote, he finished ninth among ten runners in the 32RedPoker.com Maiden Auction Stakes, which he entered with a 12-1 chance.
The son of Sakhee´s Secret, out of Mi Amor, began his career on 10th May, 2012 at Chester, where he ran over a distance of five furlongs in the Equestrianartuk.com E B F Maiden Stakes.
With rider Robert Winston on his back, he finished seventh in a line-up of nine runners.
Along with Tomway, Wayne and his wife Coleen also purchased Pippy, who is an April 2010 foal.
The son of Exceed And Excel, out of mare Gandini is also under the training of Tom Dascombe and ran his maiden on 9th May, 2012.
Despite his best efforts with rider Richard Kingscote on his back, the bay colt finished last in the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes at Chester on 9th May, 2012, which he entered
with odds of 9 to 1.
