Tondruff Tweety flies to a big finish at Hove
Greyhounds are known for whipping around a track so fast it looks as though they’re flying. If the traps are an airport, then these six pilots are always ready for takeoff. The dogs
often take to the skies at the right time, with the result being a fantastic victory.
Tonduff Tweety played the role of ace pilot in the 515m A9 race at Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium in Brighton this afternoon. Coming
out of trap two, the 9-4 favourite held an early pace, and soon led the pack to finish the race in 30.90. Wimwam Billy, the 8-1 long shot of this race, and had every chance to win. He managed a respectable finish in the number two spot with a time of 31.06
that placed him 2 lengths behind the winner.
Cruising to a third-place finish was Downland Eli (7-2), who crowded and checked first, and baulked at third. Despite those problems, he
still pulled off a third-place finish in 31.12. He was ¾ lengths behind Wimwam Billy, but that was enough for him to make the top three. Fourth place was claimed by Madam Trevali (6-1), who crowded at first and three-quarters to finish 2 lengths out of the
third position in 31.28.
Ballytag Teddy (3-1) had every chance to win, but finished the race in fifth place. His time of 31.32 was just a ½ length behind Madam
Trevali. The sixth and final position went to Cloneen Howlett, who crowded first and baulked three-quarters. He finished in 31.56, 3 lengths out of fifth place.
Guinness Rocket, a 9-2 long shot, blasted off to a surprise first-place victory in the A8 race that followed. He led the run in to complete
the race in 30.85. Finishing 1¼ lengths behind him was Avonside Lucky, the 6-4 favourite. He led first and ran on to place second with a time of 30.95. Closing out the top three was Ballytag Rose (7-2), who finished the race in 31.07. She was 1½ lengths behind
Avonside Lucky.
Westmead Gavin was the other 9-2 long shot in the race. He finished in fourth place, missing out on a third-place position by just a shoulder’s
length. He matched the third-place time of 31.07. Hot on his heels was fifth-place finisher Ballyneale Billy (6-1), who finished a ½ length behind to lock up fifth place. Sixth place went to Scholes (5-1), who moved slowly away from the pack to finish 1½ lengths
out of fifth place in 31.23.
The dogs at Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium will take flight again tomorrow evening, when a 12-race card will be presented. The first
race is slated to begin at 19:30.

Greyhounds are most interesting dogs. When racing around a track, some of them literally look as if they might be flying. If the traps are
an airport, then these six pilots are always ready for takeoff. The dogs often take to the skies at the right time, with the result being a fantastic factory.
