Tongo Doumbia was one of the promising players in Ligue 1 last season putting in a number of impressive performances for the French club.
Commanding performances by the former Chateauroux player haven’t gone unnoticed and several clubs have reportedly jumped in the race in order to acquire the player’s signature.
Doumbia, who has previously talked about his desire to play in England, is being courted by more than one Premier League side. While talking to reporters, Doumbia, who joined Rennes from Chateauroux in 2009, revealed that he is in contact with a club from England over a possible summer switch. Although the player refused to name the club, it is believed that either Aston Villa or

"Yes, there are discussions. My agent is taking care of that - it is nice but a transfer requires all parties agreeing to it and now we are talking with Rennes,” Doumbia told reporters.
Tongo Doumbia, who still has two years remaining on his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit, has conceded that it will be hard to leave Rennes if a deal goes through.
The 22-year-old has a huge respect for Rennes but stated that it’s his childhood dream to play in the Premier League and feels that he will do well in England as his playing style is very much English.
"And this is not that I don't want to play with Rennes but this is the Premier League, it is a league that really attracts me. I think I have a playing style suited to the Premier League.”
"I am due to resume training on Monday, but I hope everything will be fixed shortly," Doumbia added.
Stade Rennais want at least 2.5 million Euros for the midfielder and would not allow him to leave for anything less than that.
