Question:

Tongue piercing problems?

by | earlier

i got pierced four months ago. the healing process was amazingly quick and easy. i clean it regularly. but i'm feeling slight discomfort and i have a small bump near the barbell. someone was telling me about calcium deposits? is it just migrating? how do i know if it's rejecting? should i take it out and let it close or just keep waiting it out? i've got a good tolerance to pain so i'm not worried about duking it out, i just don't want my tongue to turn green and split in two, or something worse. haha.

i'd ask.com this, but the people on here are sooooo much quicker. thanks guys! <3

  1. if you have a standard tongue piercing, it will NOT reject. :) it's way too much of a sacrafice for the body to reject the piercing. (the body basically will have to kill off all the cells to the tip of your tongue to reject it... like a tongue split!)

i've heard that you can use crushed aspirin tablets though... but i've never tried this...

  2. Try to take it off and clean the place and the earring too.

Maybe it is calcium deposit because the water you drink has a lot of minerals.

I found one nice article about tattoos and piercing:

    http://www.tips4girls.net/health/tattoos...

  3. It's most likely a keloid, which is basically scar tissue. It usually occurs on the underside of the tongue. These can be removed, so ask your doctor or piercer.

It may be worthwhile to visit your piercer anyway, just to get an opinion from someone who looks at piercings all day.

In the meantime, you can visit www.bmezine.com fo more info/help. Their encylopedia and especially the Risks encylopedia is very useful.

  4. Try taking it out for a week, if that fixes it than it MIGHT be rejection. Maybe just try your physician if the commute isn't bad.

When I got mine pierced, it got calcium deposits and I just took it out for a few days at first when it would happen. now its fine.

  5. this is just my guess but

maybe...possibly could it be that the barbell has irritated one of your taste buds and caused it to swell up a bit. if this is a possible case the swelling should go down over time.
