Tonia Couch - Sarah Barrow finish fourth in Women’s 10m synchro platform: - FINA World Championships
Great Britain’s divers, Couch Tonia and Sarah Barrow stunned the Shanghai crowd with their impressive performance in diving on day three of the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Monday, July 18.
The session of the competition conducted the Women’s 10m synchro platform final, where Tonia and Barrow put up their best effort and secured the fourth place with an impressive score of 314.52 points.
While speaking about their collective performance in the World Championship finals, Couch said, “I think we did really well tonight. We were so close to a medal and I think we can be really proud of ourselves. Two points in diving is nothing so we are a
little disappointed not to be on the podium but our aim was top six and we've improved on that so that was great.”
In the meantime, Barrow asserted that such a performance is certainly a huge boost for their upcoming campaign at the London Olympic Games, in 2012. She further added that they will definitely have the advantage of the home crowd. The swimmer said that despite
favourable conditions, the duo will have to look into the selection policy to detect how to board the Olympic line-up.
Meanwhile, China’s pair of Hao Wang and Ruolin Chen secured the gold medal in the Women’s 10m synchro platform final meet with a winning score of 362.58 points.
After the event, Chen stated, “I am quite excited. I am still suffering from the waist injury, but it didn't cause much trouble in today's competition. I will also enter the 10m platform event on Wednesday, so I must stay focused. I'm looking forward to
it.”
The pair of Alexandra Croak and Melissa Wu clinched the silver medal with a total score of 325.92 points, while Christin Steuer and Nora Subschinski grabbed bronze with 316.29 points. Viktoriya Potyekhina and Yulia Prokopchuk of Ukraine wound up fifth with
a total score of 311.64 points, whereas, Anna James and Mary Dunnichay Beth of United States finished eleventh with 278.22 points.
