Tonio Liuzzi not worried as he has a contract with Force India
Tonio Liuzzi nullified rumours that he might be forced to leave Force India next year as the team wants to replace him with Paul di Resta. Tonio believes that he has a strong relationship with the team and he has a contract inked with Force India's management.
It was reported that one week ago, di Resta is expected to take Adrian Sutil’s place if he moves to another team and Tonio Liuzzi’s place if Sutil stays with Force India. However, Liuzzi is not worried about his place in the team and claims he has not heard
about any indications regarding the matter.
“Personally I don't know if he has a place or what his contract says, but from my understanding that would mean that Adrian is out because I have a contract,” claimed Liuzzi.
Tonio added that these rumours were false and nothing had changed between him and team which is why he assumed that these reports were just rumours.
Liuzzi has struggled a lot during the 2010 season with Force India due to chassis problems and trouble with the F-duct system. He is currently 36 points behind teammate Adrian Sutil and it creates a bad statistical record for the Italian. However, Liuzzi
insists that this explains only half the story and the team is aware of it.
Vijay Mallya trusts Tonio Liuzzi and it is well appreciated that his bad performances were not his fault. The proper announcement and official information will be released soon and Tonio Liuzzi is not worried by the speculation in the press in the mean time.
“That kind of stuff is normal at this stage of the year, especially when there are rookies that people want to get into the business - more and more rumours are created. I don't really fear that, I just want to do the best I can for the team and secure Force
India sixth in the championship,” he added.
The Italian driver has set his focus on helping his team beat Williams for the sixth place in the championship as he believes it is an attainable target despite Force India’s lead of just 5 points after the Singapore Grand Prix.
“I'm confident that we will be fast until the end of the season and the next race at Suzuka will be a big chance to increase the gap. However, we can't deny that Williams have done a good job in the last few months and we know that they won't just go to
sleep and make it easy for us,” he said.
Force India is currently at 6th place with 62 points in the constructors’ standings and the team is leading the third pack of teams in the constructors’ standings. Adrian Sutil is constantly outperforming his teammate Tonio Liuzzi and this is
becoming a problem for the Italian driver as Adrian Sutil is expected to join one of the top teams. Meanwhile, there are rumours that Liuzzi might not even stay with Force India. It is not a good sign for the 30-year-old as he was not able to perform as well
as his teammate in the same car. Tonio Liuzzi is currently ranked at the 15th spot with just 13 points ahead of Sebastian Buemi. His teammate Adrian Sutil however is in 9th place with 49 points, ahead of the 7 time world champion Michael
Schumacher. This season has been great for Force India thanks to Adrian Sutil as he scored the 5th place for the team at the Malaysian and Belgian Grand Prix this year. Tonio Liuzzi claims that he has been very unlucky with the car this season and
missed out on a couple of good opportunities to score points because of that. Since Liuzzi has a contract with Force India, it is plausible that Force India might have the Italian for another season. However, it is still not certain whether he’ll be able to
achieve that goal.
