Tonio Liuzzi – the unsung hero of the Korean Grand Prix
The debut Korean Grand Prix is suggested to be the turning point for Tonio Liuzzi, the Force India driver, who was able to wrap up his race last weekend at 6th place. He believes that this race marked a major day of his life as it came up at a
time when he desperately needed a good weekend like this one.
The driver had a troubled season with his team, however, he now believes that good days are on their way for him. He very confidently stated earlier today that after the brilliant finish that he had at the last race he is now looking forward for a strong
ending as well. The 2010 year is yet to see two more races, the next to be held in Brazil in the upcoming week, while the last one would be showcased in Abu Dhabi at the end of November.
Like most part of the season, the race weekend in Korea started poorly for the racer. He had a laid back qualifying session and was not able to make anywhere above 18th on the grid. Moreover, the start of the race was also a poor one as he had a few mishaps
at the very first lap. However, the enthusiastic driver kept on going with full motivation and focus and despite of the hazards of the wet and slippery track he was able to wrap up at 6th place.
This race was not only brilliant for the driver for he proved his skills of a great racer in such tough conditions, but also the timing of the race had been brilliant for him. Liuzzi currently stands at 13th place in the Drivers’ Championship
having bagged a total of 21 points with seventeen races of the season already gone. On the other hand, his teammate Adrian Sutil has positioned himself at 11th place in the tally with 47 points under his belt so far. Owing to such a great difference
from his teammate his position in the team for the upcoming season was very insecure. Moreover, there had been speculations last week that the DTM leader Paul di Resta would be replacing him for the next season.
However, with this finish the driver has efficiently informed his team what he is capable of and also expects to continue doing the same in the rest of the two races as well.
While talking to the media as he returned from the race in Korea the Italian said, "For me it was really important to show we are back in business and the first thing I said on the radio to my engineers was the luck had to turn one day, sooner or later.
Fortunately we were able to show that when things are going right, we are there, and we are fast, and we are ready to do great things.”
He furthermore told that with this lucky race weekend he is looking forward for similar performances now. Liuzzi explained that Force India has always made him feel good and he wishes to continue racing with the team for the next year as well.
The 30-year-old concluded saying, "After a few difficult races we needed a race where things went well, we got to the finish and got some decent points. For the first time in a long time I had a really good feeling with the car. It was as if I was totally
connected with it and that meant I could push with complete confidence."
With only five more days to go for the next round the Brazilian Grand Prix, the driver hopes to give a very strong performance to the team this weekend as well.
