Former Force India driver Tonio Liuzzi waiting for Hispania Racing Team’s verdict
Tonio Liuzzi was released from Force India, as the team signed their reserve driver Paul di Resta as a full season driver for the 2011 Formula 1 season, despite the fact that Luizzi's contract ended after the end of the 2011 season.
However, Hispania Racing Team (HRT) had approached the driver ahead of the Barcelona test sessions and asked him to test-drive for the team. This was Liuzzi's chance to impress the Spanish team and confirm his place as HRT's second full season driver
along with Narain Karthikeyan, their first full season driver.
“We will wait and see. HRT needed someone to test the car who could drive the development and engineering side. They were really happy to have me in the car for a day and we agreed to do this day of testing to get to know each other and see if there
is any way for the future,” Liuzzi told the media.
An experienced driver is exactly what HRT need at the moment. This will be the Spanish contingent's second season in Formula 1 and since they were unable to secure any points in their debut season in 2010, the team will be looking towards a seasoned
driver, with experience in all the car development stages as well; a bill Liuzzi fits rather easily.
Tonio Liuzzi believes that he did enough at the 3rd pre-season test session, that took place in Barcelona, to secure the seat at HRT. The team announced a couple of weeks ago that they have signed Narain Karthikeyan as their
full season driver and it seems that Tonio is probably going to team-up alongside the Indian.
“It was a positive day. We made a lot of changes on the car, focusing particularly on the set-up and the tyres. It was a chance for me to get to know the new tyres and the team as it was my first day with HRT,” said Liuzzi.
Other than that, the team’s boss Colin Kolles was quite impressed with Liuzzi’s performance as well and he stated that the team will announce a decision regarding their second seat pretty soon.
