The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 midfielder’s representative Mino Raiola has made it clear that his client wants to continue plying his trade at De Kuip Stadion despite interest from abroad.
Feyenoord Rotterdam midfielder, Tonny Vilhena, has emerged as one of the most promising youngsters playing in the highest echelons of Dutch football.
The 17-year-old came through the ranks of the Rotterdammers youth academy, and started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the 2011/12 season.
Although the teenage sensation only made six appearances for the Rotterdam giants, his promising showings were enough to attract interest from abroad.
However, the Feyenoord management were in no mood to lose the youngster, whose contract ran until the summer of 2014, and offered him a new and improved contract.
Reports in Dutch media indicated that Vilhena has denied signing a new contract after negotiations lasted a long while, but his agent has now confirmed that his client has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at De Kuip Stadion until the end of
the 2015/16 campaign.
“Everyone says that the negotiations have lasted a long while. There was no rush for us and he didn't play for a while. Tonny always gave the impression that he wanted to stay at De Kuip. He can develop under a coach who has great confidence in him. And
the terms were right for us now, so we agreed [to the extension]”, Raiola was quoted as saying to Algemeen Dagblad.
The gifted midfielder-c*m-striker’s agent went on to insist that his client has not signed the contract extension for financial gains, while adding that if that was the case, his client would have preferred to join a top European club.
“It was certainly not for money. If it had been, he would have signed with a European club, because there was interest from big clubs. We are particularly pleased with the detailed plans that the club has with him. Everyone is prepared to do everything
to ensure that he can develop even faster”, Raiola concluded.
Vilhena has thus far made eight Eredivisie appearances and has netted a goal as well for the Rotterdam giants in the ongoing 2012/13 campaign. He would be keen to enhance his skills rapidly before moving abroad.
