Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir grab Swiss Open title to stretch their spectacular winning streak
Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir stretched their winning streak as they bagged the Mixed Doubles title at Swiss Open GP Gold 2012, making it their second crown in two back-to-back weeks.
Last week they won All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 and now they nailed Mixed Doubles title at Swiss Open indicating that they are best in business at the moment.
In the title match, Tontowi and Liliyana defeated Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam of Thailand on Sunday, March 18, in Switzerland.
The World Number Four Tontowi and Liliyana showed a strong character as they did not show mercy to their opponents and won the title easily in an emphatic fashion.
The Thai couple could not compete well in the final contest against their higher ranked Indonesian opponents and lost the title match in straight games.
Tontowi and Liliyana played to his maximum speed and consumed just 23 minutes in the court to hammer their lower ranked Thai rivals and claimed their second title in the current month.
At the initial stage of first game, the Thai shuttlers played well and matched the speed and perfection of their rivals.
On the other hand, Tontowi and Liliyana could not manage even a small lead until the one-minute break as their lower ranked challengers were playing flawless badminton.
The score was close on the board until the end of first half of opening set.
However, the Thai shuttlers could not maintain their positive run as their Indonesian opponents changed their tactics and started to dominate the pace of rallies.
Tontowi and Liliyana played aggressive badminton in the concluding phase of first game and managed to win it with an impressive score of 21-16.
In the second game, the top seeded Indonesian showed their incredible skills and played with precision. They continued their dominating run in the game and remained successful in taking an amazing lead of 11-6.
Tontowi and Liliyana continued their roller-coaster performance in the ending half of second game and did not face any resistance from their opponents in finishing it with a remarkable score of 21-14.
Tontowi and Liliyana emerged as the title winners by ending the final contest with a comprehensive 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
