Tony Allen helps the Memphis Grizzlies defeat the Indiana Pacers 99–78
With four of their starters scoring in double figures, the Memphis Grizzlies thrashed the Indiana Pacers 99–78 at the FedExForum on Saturday night. Tony Allen had a brilliant night with 19 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, six steals and a block.
Memphis had a big lead from early on in the game, as they cooled off the Pacers following their impressive overtime win against the Chicago Bulls, at Conseco Fieldhouse on Friday. Mike Conley’s pull-up jumpshot extended the lead to 15 points with just over
seven minutes to go in the first quarter. Indiana then went on an 11-3 run to make the game close and reduce the lead to seven points.
Marc Gasol had 10 points for the Grizzlies and Mike Conley added 19 points and seven assists, as the Grizzlies led 27-20 at the end of the first quarter. Memphis continued their onslaught with an unanswered 10-point run in the second quarter to extend the
lead to 54-29 with over two and a half minutes left on the clock.
Zach Randolph shot 8–11 from the floor and had a good game for his 17 points and 10 rebounds, as the Grizzlies dominated the Pacers inside the key with an enormous 64–22 advantage. Memphis found their way into the painted area, and scored at will to rack-up
some quick and easy points.
The Pacers committed 20 turnovers and shot 35.6 percent from the field to dig themselves into a hole, as the Grizzlies ran away with the game. Memphis out-rebounded the Pacers 44–36 and shot an impressive 51.8 percent from the field, even though they went
0-9 from beyond the arc.
The third period was keenly contested as the Grizzlies led 76 -60 going into the fourth stanza.
Memphis went on another run in the fourth quarter, as Indiana scored only two points compared to Memphis’ 15 during a six and a half minute stretch. Lance Stephenson’s free throw with just over two minutes left broke Indiana’s scoreless stretch. The Grizzlies
led 93–73 at that point.
Darren Collison went 5-for-8 to put up 17 points in 29 minutes on the floor. Danny Granger also added 17, while Tyler Hansbrough had five boards to go with his 14 points. The Memphis bench also outscored Indiana’s reserves 30–22 in the contest.
