Tony Bellew: Danny McIntosh feels intimidated against me - Boxing News
Tony Bellew, the current British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) British light heavyweight champion, is frustrated at the postponement of the bout with Danny McIntosh and alleged that Danny is afraid of taking him on adding that he now understands what he
is up against and will not rise at the occasion since he is intimidated.
Tony was scheduled to defend his newly acquired gold against Danny in a 12-round bout on April 13, 2012 but an inadvertent injury in McIntosh’s chest forced him to apply for the postponement of the bout.
The application was duly heard and after careful investigation and provision of the medical reports by British Boxing Board of Control, the bout was eventually moved to Friday April 27, 2012.
The ring will be stretched at the same Echo Arena situated in Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom and the Tony-Danny bout will headline the night. Tony, while in a recent interview shared his sheer disappointment and was visibly frustrated about the news
since he had prepared so much for the bout and a delay, so close to the previously decided date, is an irritating aspect.
Tony, 29, has been in a total 17 bouts and came out victorious in 16. He has collected 10 wins by knockout and snatched the BBBC title from Ovill McKenzie. The Briton number two light heavyweight is coming from a majority decision loss to Nathan Cleverly,
a bout with golden chance to become the WBO light heavyweight champion.
While sharing his views and denoting Danny as a coward, Tony commented, “I don't think he is a bad kid but the closer the fight has got, the realisation has dawned on him. He now realises what he is up against and what is coming towards him. He knows what's
coming and is not the type of fighter who rises to the occasion. He fiddles his way through battles and hopes to come out the other side.”
Tony, who has also proudly held the Commonwealth (British Empire) light heavyweight gold, released his frustration at the press conference and said, “I have just got to stay focused on the job. I feel like Danny has bottled it and is looking for excuses.”
Bellew added, “I'm going to stop him and knock him out and it feels to me like Danny already has an excuse lined up.” Danny has been in a total 15 bouts and emerged victorious in 13.
At the moment, the bout is postponed to April 27, 2012 along with the whole pay-per-view. The dates might change again if Danny does not recuperate early from the injury.
