Tony Bellew steps in to face big rival Nathan Cleverly on Saturday – Boxing news
Liverpool’s dynamite punching Tony Bellew has stepped in to face Nathan Cleverly this Saturday, May 21, 2011.
The match between both pugilists will be held at the O2 Arena in London where the 28-year-old Bellew will challenge the 24-year-old Welshman for the World Boxing Organization Light-Heavyweight title.
Cleverly was scheduled with Juergen Braehmer, who disgracefully pulled out of his fight in the Wednesday’s event by failing to arrive in London. He also claimed a cut on his eye. The promoter Frank Warren in the meanwhile was looking for an opponent for
Cleverly, when he came to know through social networking websites that Bellew wants to fight Cleverly.
Cleverly was also very excited on getting a fight with his old rival Bellew and believes he will defeat him with a knock out.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I’m really happy that Bellew will be in the opposite corner on Saturday night. Not only will he feel my anger from Braehmer pulling out, but he’ll now pay for slagging me off in the last year. I knew we would get
it on one day and that day has come a lot sooner than expected, but I’m ready for Bellew and he’s going to get knocked-out.”
The Wavertree Bomber Tony Bellew on the same note has also claimed he is going to knock out Cleverly this Saturday.
He told the media “I’m coming down to London to fight and believe when I say I’m going to knock Cleverly out cold. I wouldn’t have put myself forward if I didn’t think I could beat him. Two months notice or two day’s notice, I know I can beat Cleverly –
I always have.”
Both men were eager to get the fight underway, as the showdown between them was building for the last two years. However now when it has been finalised, it is surely going to be an explosive fight. Moreover, with James DeGale’s grudge fight against George
Groves for the British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight titles, it is going to be an all-British double-header blockbuster.
