Tony Bellew upbeat about defeating Nathan Cleverly – Boxing news
The reigning British and Commonwealth champion, Tony Bellew, has claimed he will become a world champion this weekend, as the Wavertree Bomber, Bellew, vowed he will defeat his bitter rival Nathan Cleverly easily.
The 28-year-old Bellew will challenge Cleverly for his World Boxing Organisation light heavyweight world championship title this Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Echo Arena, Liverpool and he is fully confident of a win.
The undefeated Liverpudlian prospect, Bellew, who has won all of his 16 professional fights, with 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he cannot wait to get in the ring because he knows he is going to create history. He claimed
everyone will see a fighter winning a world title in just 17 fights.
Bellew said, “It will be absolutely nuts - 10,000 Scousers going absolutely crazy, and 10,000 Scousers who are going to see history made - a fighter who is going to win a world title in his 17th fight. I can't wait for it to happen.”
In the end, Bellew insisted he is in the best shape for his fight and he will expose the Welshman on the fight night.
“I am in frightening shape. I have done over 100 rounds of sparring with world-class fighters and I am already on the weight. I know what he does and what he is going to try to do. I will expose what he is bad at and I will prove what he is good at is not
better than what I am good at,” Bellew added.
The Bellew-Cleverly bout is certainly going to an explosive one because they were both set to take on each other back in May 2011 before Bellew was disqualified due to his weight.
However, since they almost fought in a press-conference and forced the security people to separate them, it is fair to say their fight is going to have all the hallmarks of being an absolute classic.
