Blair had a lot of money back then and now makes millions

it just seems cheap of him to have claimed £116 for tv license from MP Westminister Allowances

Its not illegal, but maybe the system should be changed. What do you think?

  1. Give Lion the source, give lion the source, please please!

  2. I'm sorry to say that "Thieving b******s" comes to mind !

  3. Is it fair when we are all paying out of our own pockets for our bills and then we have to pay out of our pockets again not only their wages but then their bills and expenses?

Do any of them ever pay for anything out of their own pockets?

No, why? because they are politicians, they are greedy and can spend our money anyway they bloody like.

Will it change? I doubt it very much.

  4. Source please!

Thank you. I agree that the system should be changed. No, it is not cool.

  5. Why should any government person have expenses, for domestic bills they earn a lot of money ,we have to pay our taxes, and they should be treated the same as any individual,if everyone in the UK asked for their TV licence to be paid for, and took a petition to 10 Downing ST what leg would the government have to stand on..

  6. I thought it was just the elderly that got free tv licence's, he doe,s not look over 70 to me.I have to pay the full amount like millions of other people so why cant he.It is disgusting what they claim back, should not be allowed. EDIT alright anon i got it wrong i thought they did, some people are so uptight on here.

  7. they should all have red faces but they wont and that Prescott man is the lowest of low///but what reason does rules allow him to claim for that food is it for entertainment costs does anyone really know? just the tip of the iceberg wait till you know how and what they ripped the treasury off while in power/ they should all be punished but it will be forgotten

  8. haha I read that about Tony. I actually dont mind the cleaning bill and the food bill. It is the TV licence that annoys me the most.

We cant claim our home TV licence on our work expenses and it is only £116 a year ! He can afford it. I bet the Blair TV is not 100% for work purposes so it is a total cheek!

  9. It is absolutely despicable. Here is the link.

  10. Oh dear. When will the electorate wake up and realise that they do not give 2 tosses about us ?

    Their allowances are disgusting.

When are we as the peasants going to do something about it I wonder.

Bring on the next elections and vote no to all parties.

  11. I have to pay my bills from my wages. Why the h**l cant they?

  12. I'm so disgusted with them!  How can they ever dictate to us again!  And why are we putting up with it?  They make a big thing about benefit scroungers who might make an extra £20 a week on top of benefit but this is far more serious!  The whole system should be changed. How dare they expect us to pay for their food when they have larger salaries than most of the population!

  13. Why shouldn't they pay, they have robbed the country enough without adding this lot to their already fat wallets!

  14. Any good accountant would have done this on their behalf.  I note you don't include the Cameron mortgage (slight political bias, perhaps).

Don't blame those who claim, blame the rules if you're not happy, but all of this is fairly standard stuff in public (and a lot of commercial) life.

  15. this news is just proof of a question that I previously asked and got a violation notice. Why are the Brits so STUPID. You fell annoyed I feel vindicated

  16. How many of us criticising MP's can put our hands on our hearts and swear we would not do the same as them? Yes the system should be changed because as long as the expenses and allowances are legal they will naturally be taken advantage of, it's the rare exception who doesn't.

  17. Back bench politicians should be paid no more than £40,000 Ministers £60,000 and the PM no more than £ 80,000, live in government owned property while in London, no extra expenses whatever. They then may start to realise what it is like for the rest of us in the real world. You never know we could also get politicions that go into the job for the good of the country instead of whats good for their pockets

  18. I think they should just manage as we do on their basic wage and any other "expenses" go through some procedure or other - they should not be able to claim for just anything. I have to pay for my tv license on a monthly basis just as my son at uni does. MPs are just doing a job they chose to do should not be privileged.

  19. just to answer paula further up. the elderly do not get free tv licenses. nor do the blind. i think if they are over 85 or something like that,  they get a small reduction. but that wont worry tony blair. his needs are greater. the greedy git.im sickened to see this on the news. we are sopposed to be so  fortunate to be given the minimum wage of £5.52. out of that we pay tax and insurance. which then goes to the fat cats in government. sickening isnt it?

  20. apart from my feeling that the TV license is theft because the consumer has NO control over the content of what they are purchasing AND they have to pay again if they want a DVD, I think that paying for all this stuff for politicians is wrong.

really and honestly I think that the ministers job should not be paid more than minimum wage.  THEY judged that to be the absolute minimum for somebody to live on so they cannot complain about it not being enough to cover their needs.

That way the can concentrate on making their citizens lives better rather than looking contantly at bettering their future by lining their career with gold.

btw I hate politicians....can you tell?

If little hard working people like me and many more on low incomes can get by without splashing out on all the things we would love to have in our lives then so can they.  If they want to spend more money let them apply for a credit card like most of the students in this country are forced to do to get by before they find out there are no good salary jobs for them to go into (many of my friends have been in this situation).

if council workers, teachers and NHS staff can be paid low wages so can the rest of the government employees with the same justification.  I would love to see the PM apologise that the budget has not been done because the chancellor was off on long term sick and the management could not allow a temp to take over because of financial constrictions.
