Tony Fernandes: Vitaly Petrov is an amazing talent for Caterham – Formula 1 news
Caterham team principal, Tony Fernandes has said that Vitaly Petrov, who has replaced Jarno Trulli this year, is an amazing talent for the team.
After finishing at tenth place in the constructors’ champion during the last couple of seasons, with the pair of drivers, Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, Caterham made the decision to replace the Trulli and signed the contract with the Petrov.
Nevertheless, Fernandes asserted that the Italian driver performed reasonably well for a new team during the last two seasons in which they managed to secure tenth place.
“Jarno played an incredibly important role in the first two years of our team,” he told the official Formula One website. “He and Heikki both gave us the experience and the push we needed from day one to ensure we finished tenth in our first two seasons,
and to set the standards we needed to mirror the teams they had both been with before joining us.”
In addition, he said that Vitaly has a great potential and has already made his place in the team.
“But we wanted to bring in some new talent, and Vitaly has proven to be an incredibly good acquisition for the team. He is quick, he is talented and he has settled in immediately,” said Fernandes.
Besides, he said that there have been many discussions regarding Vitaly that he was just a regular driver. However, he said that the Russian driver has a huge talent plus he is very keen about his performance and will surely prove out to good for the team
in the upcoming season.
In 2010, Fernandes who is a Malaysian businessman revived the team Lotus in F1 after 16 years.
Moreover, the team has received many prizes from International Automobile Federation (FIA) over the period of last two years as compared to the other midfield teams which may include Hispania Racing Team (HRT) and Marussia.
Furthermore, Fernandes has targeted the same tenth position in the constructors’ championship yet again while he thinks that to close the gap and to set a sensible target will be quite hard to tackle, in this season.
