Tony Fernandes: We are taking nothing for granted – Formula 1 news
Caterham team principal, Tony Fernandes has said that they are not taking their 10th position in the constructors’ championship ahead of Marussia for granted and they are hopeful that they can make improvements in the approaching races.
Caterham pair of drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov, has not been able to score even a single point in the season so far. Nevertheless, Fernandes said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the races ahead.
Furthermore, he said that Kovalainen has been working really hard along with the team members so as to improve his performance for the races ahead. He added that although Petrov has been struggling in the season until now, however, he is also very much keen
to enhance his pace in the upcoming races.
“Moving back into tenth place is important but there are 14 more races to come this season and we are taking nothing for granted,” he said. “However, Heikki's 13th place and battling performance he and the whole team put in is another sign that all hard
work we have put in over last two and a half years is starting to pay off. Vitaly has not had best luck in the last couple of races but his enthusiasm, humour and determination are all evident whenever he is with us so he needs in his locker to succeed with
us long-term.”
Besides, he said that it is quite hard to make any projections about the forthcoming races as there have been six different winners in the first six races of the season.
Over and above, he said that their main target is to join the midfield teams in this season and they are trying to make the best of the efforts to improve their position.
Above and beyond, he said that they have been trying to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations in order to improve their pace for the season ahead so as to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
Additionally, he said that they are aiming to deliver their best in 2012 Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
