Tony Fernandes moves on with rebranding
Team Lotus’s team boss Tony Fernandes and Group Lotus have literally been fighting against each other over the rights to the name Lotus since the past couple of weeks and even though they have decided to take this matter to the court, they are still trying
their best to come up with an alternative solution. However, that is not possible and it seems that they will have to wait until the end of January for the final verdict.
Tony Fernandes claims that he bought the rights to the name Lotus from Group Lotus after the organization decided to withdraw its naming rights. Group Lotus recently revealed that they have decided to join hands with RenaultF1 and as a result, Renault has
changed its official name to Lotus Renault GP.
However, Tony is going to move on and rebrand his F1 team by the name of Team Lotus since the team has already designed its logo, website and merchandise by the name along with the CABC logo.
“The migration to Team Lotus brand has started. It's a shame. I liked Lotus Racing and always thought Team Lotus should be returned to Chapman family. But that's the deck of hand [cards] we got handed,” Tony wrote on his Twitter page.
This means that there will be two Lotus teams running on the 2011 Formula 1 grid and since both of these teams are clearly not the best of friends, it would be interesting to see how both of them challenge each other.
The team’s new website is now up and running while Lotus Renault GP’s new website is expected to be launched on the 31st of January.
Lotus has announced that they will keep both Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli for another run and it seems that both of the drivers are now more eager than ever to drive for Team Lotus as well. On the other hand, Renault is expected to announce their second
driver soon while Robert Kubica has been confirmed for another season.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be emotional and dramatic at the same time and it seems that it is getting harder for the fans to wait any longer.
