Tony Fernandes of Lotus happy with Qualifying session of Australian GP – Formula 1
Formula 1 Lotus team boss, Tony Fernandes, has recently updated the media that he is pleased with both his drivers, who had a productive run in the qualifying session today. He also mentioned that the team absolutely deserves this position because they paid
the price for their limited running in the winter testing.
After the Qualifying session, he admitted that the team was very nervous before this session and were curious as to where they would end up on the table, but now Lotus is satisfied with their standing ahead of the 2011 season races.
He added, "We continue to learn all the time and as this is essentially a completely new car we have to work hard on a number of areas to help us achieve our full potential, particularly on tyre management - the car looks like it has Malaysian blood as it
clearly prefers hotter conditions!"
On the other hand, Lotus drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli did not seem completely satisfied with the results and declared after the qualifiers that they would be more competitive in tomorrow’s race. Kovalainen told the media, his car experienced
a wing problem in Q1 but the team ignored the issue and moved on. They also struggled with tyre temperatures and tried their best to put Lotus in top 10 positions.
Both Kovalainen and Trulli registered their best run on the time-sheets coming 19th and 20th respectively. Kovalainen added, after his successful run in the qualifying session, that the team is in good shape and can really do their best in their first race.
Other than Kovalainen, Trulli also admitted that Lotus will move towards its most supportive run on Sunday race. He went on to say, "We'll clearly be much quicker when we can get the tyres up to full temperature so it'll be an exciting race for us tomorrow
and I think we'll be in good shape to push the guys ahead who we were much closer to in the warmer conditions in pre-season testing."
Other Formula 1 teams also completed fast laps, while the Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber have done fantastic jobs in the Qualify session.
The first race of the 2011 season will start on 27 March, after the successful practice days and qualifying sessions.
