Tony Fernandes says Lotus must learn from Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus boss Tony Fernandes has said that his team needs to learn from the recently held Canadian Grand Prix mistakes.
He admitted that there were many unbelievable things during the Montreal race, so they have learnt a lot from that experience. The Lotus boss added that they will try their best to avoid the same mistakes again in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team had a good start in the Canadian race weekend, as both drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen finished their Friday practice sessions on a positive note. However, they struggled for a decent start during the qualifying round in Montreal.
The team had a chance to shine among the other strong teams in the Canadian Grand Prix. Lotus driver Trulli ended his race behind Virgin and Hispania Racing teams, while Kovalainen retired from the race due to some technical issues in his car.
Fernandes added about the team’s Canadian race performance, “It is important that we learn from that experience, cut out the same mistakes again and make sure we are in the right place to take advantage of such extraordinary circumstances in the future.
It is all part of the learning curve and you have to have the lows to truly appreciate the highs.”
He praised the drivers’ qualifying performance and mentioned that they are aiming to again have a good progress during the qualifiers of the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix.
Apart from that, the team driver Kovalainen said that he is looking forward to secure a good position in the qualifying session of the European race weekend.
The Finnish driver added, “We've been easy on the tyres all season so hopefully that will be the case again in Valencia, giving us strategic options that we've used well all season - Q2 is still the goal for qualifying and then let's see what happens on
Sunday.”
After a poor race weekend in Canada recently, team Lotus are expecting better performance from their drivers in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix taking place on June 26, 2011.
