Tony Fernandes says Silverstone GP important as GE, Caterham logos to be used on car – Formula 1
Lotus’ team principal Tony Fernandes has said that the upcoming Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season is important to the team because for the first time, GE and Caterham logos will be used on the car and team outfits.
Fernandes also added that the uphill battle of the Lotus team has been recognised by the global business community for which the car manufacturers have sponsored the team.
Tony stated, “Being able to race with two such important additions to the team is a very big step forward for us - our partnership with GE is a clear sign that one of the most important members of the global business community shares our vision for the future
of our team, and the plans for Caterham will start being revealed very soon.”
He further added, “This is a big race for us, both in terms of track performance where we want to keep bringing down the gap to the midfield, and because we will see the GE and Caterham logos on the cars and across the whole team for the first time.”
Lotus’ performance in the 2011 season has been a mixed one as none of the drivers, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, has been able to land among points but are constantly finishing the races for which the team is placed tenth on the constructors’ table
ahead of Virgin and HRT.
The 2011 season is Lotus’ second in Formula 1 arena and they are yet to make their first appearance among points.
In 2010, the team was powered by Cosworth engines and remained mostly down in the rankings. However, for the 2011 season, Lotus have joined hands with Renault, which also powers Red Bull Racing, but are yet to make their appearance felt in the Formula 1
midfield battle.
Nevertheless, the season continues in Silverstone on July 10, 2011 and it will be interesting to see how Lotus perform on the track.
