Tony Freer and Zach Freer of Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club win 2011 RS200 SW Ugly Tour
After a successful run in the fifth round of 2011 RS200 SW Ugly Tour at Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club, Tony Freer and Zach Freer finally managed to win the event by 5 points after three races. The RS200 fleet raced under the late summer sunshine but unfortunately,
there was no fast breeze over the racing area. Despite hindrance by weather conditions, yachts were able to complete the races.
Ben McGrane and Roz Allen of Netley grabbed the final race to hit the second spot by six points after a race discard, while Matt Mee and Emma Norris from HISC/Red Wharf Bay Sailing Club were able to take the third place with eight points.
The overall standings at the end of the event are given below:
1. 1451 Tony Freer, Zach Freer, CVLSC 3, 2, (7) = 5 points
2. 584 Ben McGrane, Roz Allen, Netley (5), 5, 1 = 6 points
3. 1311 Matt Mee, Emma Norris, HISC/Red Wharf BaySC 2, (7), 6 = 8 points
4. 1276 Marie Stanley, Sam Maxfield, Wessex SC (6), 4, 4 = 8 points
5. 481 John Teague, Louise Fisher, BCYC (18), 1, 9 = 10 points
6. 852 Nick Cherry, Charlotte Lawrence, Wessex SC 8, (10), 3 = 11 points
7. 1301 Pete Vincent, Charlotte Cotter, BCYC 9, 3, (11) = 12 points
8. 1170 Ben Ainsworth, Rachel Williamson, Wessex SC 1, (12), 12 = 13 points
9. 848 Nick Martindale, Henry Martindale, CVLSC 11, (15), 2 = 13 points
10. 317 Ralph Singleton, Murray Scott, CVLSC 7, 6, (8) = 13 points
Performance wise, Tony and Zach Freer were not over the top and that was because of a low breeze. However, they showed outstanding form during the event and secured a third, second and seventh place, to claim the overall victory. Due to low winds, only three
races could be commenced and one of them was discarded to attain the final results.
Race officer, John Smalley, had to postpone the races, as there was not enough breeze to commence any competition. The wind blew around the Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club from four to six knots north easterly, which was not of any help at all. Sailors had
to wait for the southerly breeze to fill in, so that they could start racing.
