Tony Gallopin ends his 2012 season after the Worlds crash
The news from Team RadioShack-Nissan camp is that the team’s star rider, Tony Gallopin has decided to throw in the towel on his 2012 campaign after suffering from a broken bone.
The cyclist crashed during the UCI Road World Championships on Sunday which resulted in a broken bone in his hand and will not race for the remaining part of the season.
The French has enjoyed spectacular form in 2012 season and has been impressive with his third overall finish at the Tour of Oman and sixth at the Bayern-Rundfahrt.
Gallopin also managed to claim the young rider classifications after his heroic performance in both the Bayern-Rundfahrt and the Tour of Oman 2012.
He was looking good to secure a victory during the second stage of the Criterium du Dauphine but had to settle for the third position behind Daniel Moreno of Team Katusha and Julien Simon of Team Saur-Sojasun.
"When there isn’t a victory it is always disappointing," he said on the team’s website.
"The team did such a good job for me, especially Popo”.
“Popo stayed with me until the last 500 meters when some riders attacked and it was time for me to go”.
“I tried to keep the wheel of Moreno when he went and I couldn’t, but third place is not so bad”.
“Tomorrow is the flattest stage of the week so it will be for the super fast sprinters which is not me, but that’s ok because on Friday and Sunday I will have more chances," he concluded.
Gallopin will now miss the remaining races of the season including the Milano-Torino, Gran Piemonte, Circuit Franco Belge and II Lombardia.
