http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anthony-William-Greig-c45123 wants consistent use of technology in international cricket – Cricket News Update
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 all-rounder, Tony Greig, is in favour of the Decision Review System’s (DRS) mandatory usage in all the international matches and has criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its continuous
disapproval of the technology’s utilization in the game.
Over the last 24 months, there has been a massive debate about the use of technology in international matches with most of the cricket boards backing it to minimize umpiring errors. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, however, feels that technology itself is
not error-free and the authorities should not tinker with the game.
During the recently concluded Test match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at Galle, the umpiring standard was extremely pathetic and many questionable decisions were made. During and after the match, many experts once again urged the
game’s governing body to make DRS essential in every match at the highest level of the game.
While speaking during the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at the Lord’s, the former England captain admitted that technology is not perfect but it does reduce mistakes and makes the umpires’ job easier.
"The DRS is not perfect, but it does err in favour of the umpires' decisions and according to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625, fewer mistakes are made with its use. And furthermore, there is less conflict on the ground,” Greig said.
The Indians miserable failed to tackle with DRS in their series in Sri Lanka in 2008 and many of their senior players did not feel comfortable with the technology’s use. The Men in Blue lost the series by a margin of 2-1, with Ajantha
Mendis taking full advantage of the referral system.
The 65-year-old understands the reasons behind India’s disagreement but feels that the World Champions should accept the rest of the cricketing fraternity’s will.
He added, "India has two reasons for opposing it: One, because its superstars had such an embarrassing experience with it in the early days. Two, the BCCI argues that the DRS is too inexact. Ironically, the spirit of cricket is batting
on both sides in this one. The Indian superstars should act in the spirit of cricket and accept the majority viewpoint."
