Tony Hawk auctions his personal belongings to raise money for his foundation – Skateboarding News
Philanthropist and retired American professional skateboarder Tony Hawk has begun an auction to raise money for his foundation Tony Hawk Foundation.
The auction began on eBay on Thursday, March 1. The 43-year-old Hawk is offering some of his most personal belongings and other rare stuff to the highest bidder, which all of the proceeds reserved for the building and maintenance of skate-parks in communities
where the under-privileged reside.
In a video uploaded on YouTube to promote the auction, the Californian philanthropic skateboarding legend said, “We [are offering] some stuff that's very personal to me, and some stuff that's very rare.”
The auction is offering people a chance to bid for stuff such as skateboards as well as trophies that are part of Hawk’s collection, a motorcycle, Victory motorcycle, DUB-edition Tony Hawk Dodge Challenger, unique skate and sports memorabilia and a number
of other exclusive items.
The comparatively less-lavish bidder will have an opportunity to become proud owners of the X Games Champions Set, a collection of signed decks, with the signatories ranging from the likes of Hawk, Shaun White, Pierre-Luc Gagnon (PLG), Andy MacDonald and
Bucky Lasek.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) fans will also find a number of tempting items on action, which includes a signed Michael Jordan jersey.
According to the Tony Hawk Foundation, “Tony bought this signed No. 23 Chicago Bulls jersey at a sports memorabilia store in Las Vegas at a time when he was being compared to Michael Jordan. Having hung in his office for several years now, the jerseys finally
ready to retire and make room for Tony's new autographed Jeremy Lin jersey [just kidding!].”
There will also be an opportunity for people to win tickets to televised tapings of the popular American shows “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent.” A two-night stay at Hollywood’s renowned Chateau Marmont is also on offer.
The foundation has been working around the clock to promote skateboarding and providing opportunities to the underprivileged to live their passion. They target areas where there are not enough facilities for the young skaters and build skate-parks, giving
them an opportunity that they would have otherwise remained deprived of.
