Tony Hawk presents the third edition of Tony Hawk Twitter Hunt
The skateboarding legend from California, Tony Hawk, is once again sending his twitter followers on a scavenger hunt with the third edition of Tony Hawk Twitter Hunt this holiday weekend. Throughout the weekend, he will be tweeting clues to the location
of the goodies that he has hidden worldwide. The hunt will begin as soon as the first clue hits twitter on Saturday, April 23.
The 42-year-old Hawk has hidden 100 boxes of loot across United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Continental Europe and South Africa for his fans. Majority of boxes contain unique stuff, but there are a few big-ticket items which may be found in
more than just one box. These include skateboards, bikes, helmets, Activision’s Tony Hawk, Shred video games, clothes and various food and drinks.
Hawk will also be tweeting clues to the location of a family-friendly party that will be held somewhere in the San Diego area at the end of this year’s scavenger hunt. Those who make it to the party will get a chance to see Hawk back on the skateboard.
Hawk, who nearly has 2,379, 821 followers on the social networking and micro-blogging website, will be releasing clues to the location of the hidden boxes. The rules for the Tony Hawk's Treasure Hunt are extremely simple. Read the tweet clues that Hawk will
start releasing beginning Saturday, identify the location and get there as fast as possible in order to get your hands on the goods. Once you get your hands on the package, take a picture of yourself with the package in your hand and tweet it to Hawk to let
him know that the loot has been collected and allow him to share some of your excitement.
Hawk is one of the first action sport athlete to have adopted Twitter with the intended motivation of remaining in touch with his fans.”It's not that I shied away from other social media,” he said. “But it's not as effective or interactive. When I found
Twitter, I saw instant, real-time feedback.”
However, Hawk wanted to make his connection with his horde of fans, spread all around the world, even more interactive. It was in 2008 that he came up with the idea of a scavenger hunt. He was driving to his office when the idea struck his mind. He parked
the car in a cul-de-sac, got out, hid his skateboard behind a bush and tweeted his first ever clue. By the time he got to his office and logged on to his Twitter again, one of his fans had already found the skateboard and tweeted a photo of himself with the
skateboard.
After looking at the excitement of the person who had found the skateboard, Hawk was convinced that he wanted to do it again and on a much larger scale this time. So in 2009, he initiated the first full-fledged Tony Hawk Twitter Hunt. He hid the goods and
taken up the responsibility of monitoring the tweets single-handedly.
However, Hawk will have three people to help him with this year’s scavenger hunt, while helpers all around the world will aid in the hiding of packages. This year, the Tony Hawk Twitter Hunt is expected to be bigger and better than ever.
