Tony Hawks joins in the list the Lawn Tennis Association critics – Tennis News
Jennie Price, the Chief Executive of Sport England, disapproved the feasibility report presented to him by the officials of Lawn Tennis Association that included the plan for the following four years. He rejected the proposal stating
that it was “not strong enough to justify the four-year investment”.
Tony Hawks is a bestselling author and comedian in England. He is also the founder of the Tennis For Free Charity program which incorporates the needs of young kids who are unable to meet the demands of the high-cost associated
tennis equipment and training. The Chief Executive of Lawn Tennis Association, Roger Draper, was boldly criticized by the author for his inability to prove the spending spectrum of his association from the funding of Sport England.
The Lawn Tennis Association spend 17 million pounds over the last year and only witnessed an increase of 70,000 individuals in the entire Great Britain to have picked up a racquet once a month. The number of individuals playing
tennis increased from 375000 to 445000 with a multi-million spending project that was clearly stating something fishy.
Hawks was talking to the media reporters of the Telegraph Sport and said, “That’s an awful lot of money to invest. We have done the numbers on a proposal to open a weekly Tennis For Free session in every borough in the country,
which would bring in a minimum of 225,000 new players. It would only cost £6.75 million. After the events of the last week, any other organisation would have a good look at itself. But at the LTA they are paying their chief executive a £200,000 bonus.”
Draper and his organization have been allotted 12 months to show a significant increase in the audience. They are prescribed to use the figure of 2009 as the base year and show substantial increase in the following year. The recorded
weekly participants three years earlier were around 530000. If the Lawn Tennis Association is unable to prove a drastic change in figures the cut-down of 10.3 million pounds from the budget will be distributed to other authorities that have shown immense potential
to grow at an exponential pace.
