Tony Jacklin tells the golfers to quit whining
The biggest names in the world of golf are going to gather once again to fight for the most prestigious and the oldest cup in golf, the Claret Jug. The venue for this year’s British Open Championship is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The event
starts from the 19th of July and being a four-day event, it ends on the 22nd of July.
This tournament has always been a big challenge for the players. It has never been easy to play here, as the weather conditions are very unfriendly.
This has proven to be very difficult for the players and many have even criticized the tournament for this reason.
On this, the world’s greatest golfer told the players to man up. He is of this strong view that this whining is going to do them no good. They should concentrate on their game and should not worry about the weather or the course.
The 68-year-old explained his point of view that no matter what, there is going to be a winner.
The conditions maybe unplayable, nonetheless, after four days there would be one lucky person who will take the Claret Jug home with him and "You really don't get the guys who are in with a shout complaining about conditions of golf courses".
Jacklin also talked about how it was done back in his time and that the game has evolved greatly ever since. There are always people who are not happy with the conditions and are inclined to make some changes.
He said, "I remember Hazeltine (scene of his runaway victory in the 1970 US Open), Dave Hill said all it needed was a dozen cows and a couple of tractors".
"Golf courses are to be played. The rough was high at Muirfield in 1966 when Nicklaus won - they had two stewards on the left and right of every hole,” he added.
The tournament is going to take place whatever the weather conditions maybe. Now the players have to be ready for any challenge coming their way. They have to stand strong and overcome the difficulties they encounter at the Championship.
