Tony Knowles, Bash Maqsood do well on Day Two of 2011 World Snooker Q School Event
The best-of-seven frames, Session 3 on Day-2 of Round 1 of this season’s World Snooker Q School has concluded at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The overall results for the late afternoon session are as follows:
Tony Knowles 4-1 Najm Khan
First frame of the session saw the former ranking event winner, Tony Knowles, going through to the next round. The Pakistani professional, Najm Khan, dominated the first frame with a classy break of 63 to lead 0-1 but he lost the next four straight to his
55-year-old opponent. Knowles didn’t need to play his best snooker, as he was able to win Khan with his flawless safety skills and experience.
Lee Page 4-2 Kishan Hirani
It was an impressive performance from the Englishman, Lee Page, as he was down by two frames before he bounced back into the game and won all of the following four frames in a row to register a 4-2 win in the end. He also showcased a classy break of 79 in
the fourth frame.
Vinnie Calabrese 4-0 Matthew Simpson
The best performance of the session came in the third match, as the Australian professional, Vinnie Calabrese, completely whitewashed the Englishman, Matthew Simpson, by a frame score of 4-0. Calabrese started off in a straight forward fashion with a carving
break of 56 in the first frame to draw first blood. He then took the second frame playing a tactical game. In the third frame he again knocked in a magnificent break of 72 before killing the match in the fourth.
David Portman 2-4 Bash Maqsood
Another strong performance was seen in the last match of the session, as Bash Maqsood produced high standards of game to see off the favourite, David Portman. The Englishman pocketed the first frame on the colour balls but his opponent mopped up a frame-winning
break of 58 in the second to level the things at 1-1. Though Portman managed winning the third, he lost the following three straight. The top break was 53, which came up in the last frame from Maqsood.
