Tony Knowles enters World Snooker Q School – Snooker News
Former World Number two, England’s Tony Knowles has ensured his entrance in the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) with the hopes to hit the pro tour and test his luck again. The Englishman will join 100 other potters in the fleet that will
be playing at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield to win the pro tour ticket for the next two seasons.
The 2012 World Snooker Q School will be launched in three events and the four semi-finalists from each event will win the professional tour spot for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 Snooker Seasons. The tournament was initiated by the World Snooker Chairman, Barry
Hearn in order to give the amateur potters a chance to play along with the top guns.
The first edition of the Q School was launched last year that proved to be a tremendous success and featured 12 players namely Adam Duffy, Kurt Maflin, Stuart Carrington, David Gilbert, Andrew Norman, David Grace, Adam Wicheard, Robin Hull, Li Yan, David
Morris, Simon Bedford and Tian Pengfei. Several of them have earned a well deserving place in the professional circuit.
The 56-year-old Knowles is also aiming to play in the pro circuit once again in his career. Previously, he was one of the top potters of the world in the 80s. He defeated the veteran potter, the former six-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Steve Davis
in the first round of 1982 World Snooker Championship by the score line of 10-1. Playing in the Q School, he wants to relive the old memories once again.
Speaking to World Snooker about his ambition, Knowles added, “The circuit is going in the right direction and the game is going world-wide. This is a great opportunity, especially with the two year tour card on offer. I know there are a lot of very good
young players now but maybe I can still teach them a few tricks.”
The veteran added, “I played in Q School last year but I didn't give myself enough time to practise because I had a lot of other work going on. That work is nearly finished now so I will have a lot more time to devote to playing snooker. I want to do it
as a way of relaxing more than anything.”
The previous deadline for Q School entries was March 23 but the authorities extended it later and now the entries will close on March 31.
