Tony La Russa and David Freese appear on “The Tonight Show” – MLB News
The former St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa and the World Series Most Valued Player David Freese appeared on “The Tonight Show” to share their experience of winning the 2011 World Series title.
La Russa who made a surprising announcement of retirement as skipper on Monday, October 31 spoke on a host of issues briefly. While expressing his admiration for the St. Louis Cardinals’ pitching coach Dave Duncan, he spoke of the love he held for the city
of St. Louis.
But the former manager chose not to speak, perhaps out of sheer humility, on the Hall of Fame award that he might soon get for his outstanding career. Unprecedented in its magnitude and impressiveness, La Russa is the third highest winning manager of baseball
now.
As for the future prospect, La Russa chose to deflect the question, remaining quiet on the matter. He joked he might get a slot for Performing Animal Welfare Society.
While La Russa spoke about his experience in the St. Louis Cardinals, David Freese also talked about the remarkable performance that he had in 2011. David Freese, it is worthy to recall, had won both National League Championship Series MVP and that of the
World Series.
The most amazing moment that descended on David Freese’s career, however, was when he went for the 11th inning homer in Game 6 against the Texas Rangers that brought a 10-9 victory to the St. Louis Cardinals.
"For about two months, we got rolling a little bit, and we played 'Baby' after the game during our postgame interviews and stuff," Freese said. "We played that for about two months straight and kept it going."
Asked if any treat was shared, Freese said he had not done it so. "I haven't paid for any meals yet, so that's nice," he said. "That might be the best part about this whole thing."
While both gentlemen played their respective parts in bringing glory to the St. Louis Cardinals, there is no denying the fact that it was Tony La Russa, who with his 33 years of experience, had the integral part to help the team win their 11th
title in franchise history.
