Tony La Russa and Ron Washington satisfied with their rosters for World Series – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa and Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington expressed contentment on winning their respective League pennants and qualifying for the World Series, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 19 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Cardinals will have home-advantage for this series after the National League prevailed against the American League in the All-Star Game. However, given the intensity of the competition, conditions will have a diminutive role in deciding the outcome of the games.
Both managers asserted that the journey has been quite difficult, but nothing has been achieved thus far. The Rangers finished as the second best side last year, falling to San Francisco Giants in the World Series. The Cardinals have not made a trip to the World Series in a while and will be positive of making full use of this opportunity, especially after a dramatic turnaround of fortune.
The Cardinals were 8.5 games behind Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card standings when September began and edged past them on the last day of the regular season, blanking the Houston Astros.
La Russa voiced that it has taken a lot of endurance and hard-work to reach here and it will now take a bit of good fortune to go all the way. The Redbirds became the tenth Wild Card winners to qualify for the World Series, but their ambition is to go a step ahead.
Explaining the reason for his success, La Russa said, "You don't want to end the game thinking that you had weapons that you didn't use. You just don't have that kind of patience that you can have [in the regular season]."
La Russa added that his job is to just keep an eye on the game to ensure that the team sails smoothly and the players decide for themselves as to what they want to do. Closer Jason Motte, however, refuted this proposition and stated that La Russa does not want to take credit for what he has done.
Washington, on the other hand, reiterated that the only reason behind the team’s success was the commitment they had made last year to regain their spot in the World Series. Now that the team is here, the players are hungrier than ever for success. In the end, the better team will win.
