Tony La Russa emphasises commonalities between Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals’ team manager Tony La Russa on Tuesday, October 11 tried to downplay the impression that there is an intense rivalry between his team and the Milwaukee Brewers and that possibly, both do not have any liking for each other.
Emphasising the commonalities between the Cardinals and the Brewers, he called the two teams being like ‘twins’.
This came at a time when the fans witnessed angry exchanges in Monday’s game when the Brewers were easily thumped by the Cardinals with a 12-3 victory. While the players seemed engaged in a hostile encounter, the true spirit of the game prevailed at the
end with the players ending the game with friendly gestures.
The Brewers have played a total of 18 games since the start of the post-season whereby both teams have won nine games each. The last two games of the National League Championships are excluded whereby both are tied apiece.
Cardinals’ team manager frankly admits the strong features that the Brewers possess, calling them ‘dangerous’ enough to play against in the ballpark.
La Russa said, "And the Brewers, they have grown up. Every year, they are a year older, and now they are as good as anybody. They are very dangerous to play against; they have a lot of weapons. ... So I think they are a lot like us. I think it's a very even
series."
The weapons that the Brewers rely upon are of course held by their strong band of hitters that include the likes of Ryan Braun, Carlos Gomez, Nyjer Morgan, Taylor Green, Rickie Weeks, Casey McGehee, Prince Fielder and Yuniesky Betancourt.
Despite all the hostilities that mark the games involving the two teams, there is no denying the fact that both have shown remarkable professionalism. In Game 3 of the National League Championship Series, whereby the teams are currently tied at one game
apiece, it will certainly be interesting to see how the two confront each other without being belligerent.
Both teams will be looking to come out aggressive and try to dominate early in the game. As the Series is starting to wind down, each game is a must-win situation to hopefully move forward to the coveted World Series.
